Alloy 36 (Invar 36) is a low expansion alloy that takes its name from "invariant". Because it does not react to thermal expansion.

Most commonly used in applications requiring minimal thermal expansion and high dimensional stability, for example: precision instruments such as stencils, fine line etching and laser cutting, optical equipment, electronic equipment, scientific instruments, physical laboratory equipment, motorized valves.

These properties make Alloy 36 material particularly important for alloys in the aircraft and aerospace industries, military and defense, telecommunications industries, machine shops, and tools used to make solar panels.

Leveling rods made of Alloy 36 are also used for high precision land surveying.
Alloy 36 is a nickel-iron alloy and is available in bar, sheet, coil and plate.
